Radiologic technologists are the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations............ They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care. (ASRT, 2010)

 

 

"Radiologic technologists are the 'ambassadors' to a hospital.  A patient may not have every kind of test or see many nurses or doctors. They would rarely, if at all, see anyone in administration or other people behind the scenes; but in almost every case, a patient has an x-ray of some type while in the hospital. So be sure to always represent the institution to the best of your ability."

Employment Opportunities

Registration Certification as a Radiologic Technologist provides for employment opportunities primarily in hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, and doctors' offices.
 

Employment opportunities for Radiologic Technologists are expected to remain stable through the year 2020. With experience and/or additional academic preparation, many graduates have attained positions in the following areas:

  • Radiology Department Administration

  • Hospital Administration

  • Radiography Education

Associated fields - may require additional training:

  • Mammography

  • Computerized Tomography

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging

  • Diagnostic Special Procedures

  • Interventional/Therapeutic Special Procedures

  • Cardiovascular Technology

  • Sonography

  • Radiation Oncology

  • Nuclear Medicine/ Positron Emission Tomography

  • Equipment Sales/Service

  • Technical Representative

 

Wages (varies with area and type of facility)

  • $30-40/hour to start

  •         $45 + /hour with experience
